Design telling stories.
Look at this lectern, made out of Corian, the countertop material, and designed for a contest on DesignBoom. Cool, no? I’ve been thinking about design + storytelling for the past couple of days after talking with a friend who’s struggling with his thesis. This lectern tells an affectionate story, I think. When someone’s standing behind it, it looks like the speaker is being hugged.
It’s easy to tell a story via graphic design because of the integral role that typography plays in that discipline, but what about industrial design and architecture? What stories do three-dimensional forms tell us and how do they do it? Worth thinking about. An article idea, maybe….
