I think I want to be an architect instead....
I’m taking an urban design class this quarter and I really like it. So much so, that I’m toying with the idea of applying to the UW’s M. Arch. program when I’m done with my MFA. Then I can do things like this.
I’m also feeling really critical of graphic design as a profession; the longer I’m in school, the more cynical I’m becoming. I mean, save for the occasional designer who refuses to sell him/herself as a corporate whore, what is the point other than the facilitation of gross consumerism? It’s mostly just a capitalist tool, a propagation of resource consumption…
Anyway, I had great fun with my friend Laura and the guy I hooked her up with – completely randomly, I might add, right off the street! – qui s’appelle “Jeffrey”. He’s a local furniture designer who threw himself a 30-something birthday party this weekend which was totally cool in a Napoleon Dynamite sort of way. We had so much fun!! Our next gig will be to get together to play Scrabble; we still haven’t opened the game I got Will for Christmas – doh!
I’m working on a series of book cover designs for public intellectuals and I am tired of it. I think it’s just the mid-term blues, blahs…whatever. I’ll be glad when the quarter’s over!
