Peregrine Espresso.

Mmmmmm. I went to Eastern Market tonight after work to get the dogs some bones and happened upon a new DC espresso bar. I guess it used to be this place called Murky Coffee which is supposed to be pretty good (although I’ve never been there).

But Peregrine is there now so I decided to stop in when I saw the gleaming La Marzocco machine and the well-designed logo in the window. So, I order my iced doppio and get a little concerned when the girl at the counter looks confused when I say "doppio", then turns around to look at the menu board, assuming I was ordering from there.

Usually, if the person taking your order has to have the word doppio translated, you’re in for some bad coffee. But luckily, this place was different. I knew it when I saw a drink order before mine being placed on the bar, one with the foam a velvet-y, perfectly steamed perfection, the espresso crema swirled to the top via an artisanal hand at the steam wand.

Anyway, another place to add to my list of good espresso bars in this town. Not nearly as many as Seattle, but here are my faves so far:

Open City / Woodley Park

Tryst / Adams-Morgan

Peregrine / Eastern Market

Café Bonaparte / Georgetown

Dolcezza / Georgetown

Baked & Wired / Georgetown
