The Supreme Court vs. the Seattle School District

It’s a nice day here in Seattle – FINALLY. The first of July and the weather is starting to look up.

I disagree with the Supreme Court’s decision about the Seattle School District’s use of race in determining school placement. I think its a testament to the problem it was trying to solve that the parents who brought the suit were white. I wonder what would have happened had they been a minority? Well, for starters, they probably couldn’t have afforded the attorney’s fees to fight.

This whole argument about the way to stop racism is to stop taking race into consideration is simplistically naive, imo. There are so many other factors involved. I agree with the dissenting opinion that this ruling is actually a step backward in achieving racial diversity in schools. Once again, the legal system, of which whites are the designers and controllers, has dealt a blow that will serve to continue the status quo, e.g., racial minorities at the bottom of the socioeconomic and educational ladder.

And another testament that the Supreme Court is slowly but surely getting more and more conservative. It scares me. It will take YEARS to undo all these “wonderful” things Mr Bush has done.

Don’t even get me started on racism and the War on Drugs…. BTW, this is a photo I took of Lisa and Trane.
