Was Zum Teufel?!

Tuesday, Oct 30 – With California’s blazes abating, I continue to put out fires here on the home front sans the Excel-driven planning and organizational precision of my dear husband. Last week it was Mies’s digestive system and the dishwasher going out. This week, it was fighting Weims.

For the first time ever, Oslo growled at Mies when Mies tried to usurp his spot on the couch. In typical Beta dog fashion, Mies will stand directly over Oslo to get him to move. Most of the time, this works. Today, however, it did not. Instead, Olso let out a low, "I’m not going to put up with your shit, Mies." growl when Mies attempted his dominant maneuver. In response, Mies then tried pawing at Oslo’s eye and forehead to see if that would work. It didn’t. Sorry, Mies. Oslo won.

Wednesday, Oct 31 – In today’s news, the boys and I were stopped by a yuppie couple (a youple?) pushing their brat in a stroller down the sidewalk below our house. When they saw the Weims leaping out of the car and bounding up the steps, the guy asked, "Do those dogs come in pairs? I always see people with two of them." I said no. We got ours as a two-fer. Meaning, we paid an arm and a leg for Oslo but got Mies for free. Well, not counting the cost of the hole he chewed in the seat of our brand new car a month after we got him.

For those of you who don’t know shit about how Mies came to live with us, here’s the story in several acts: MeanEvilFat people pay top dollar for baby Mies (formerly known as Jaeger) from our breeder, Stephanie. MeanEvilFat people pawn baby Mies on doggie daycare for 40 hrs/wk before his immune system is fully matured. MeanEvilFat people step on baby Mies’s leg, causing a trip to the vet. Baby Mies gets pneumonia from all the germs he’s prematurely exposed to at doggie daycare, causing overnight hospitalization. MeanEvilFat people return baby Mies to breeder, claiming he is "defective" and demanding their money back. Breeder takes the wee grey ghost and tells MeanEvilFat people to fuck off. Baby Mies’s picture is posted on Stephanie’s Weimaraner email list. Callie and Will see baby Mies’s picture. Baby Mies charms our socks off and comes to live with us. We are currently living happily ever after and could not imagine life without our little Miesie-meeser.

Thursday, Nov 01 – Nothing happened today except for Oslo and Mies getting their monthly pedicures and drooling copiously over the caged birds at Petsmart.

Friday, Nov 02 – This Friday commenced with a trip to Discovery Park with my best Francophone friend, Lisa, et ses enfants blondes, Huxley and Trane. The Weims love outings with them because 1). they get to practice their French vocabulary – For example: "Atrappe!" (Get it!); "Prend le baton!" (Get the stick!); et "Laisse-moi!" (Leave me alone!) and 2). they both get first dibs on any food morsels that Hux and Trane manage to drop. Bon Appetit!

Saturday, Nov 03
– Nothing happened today.

Sunday, Nov 04 – In preparation for next month’s Big Move, today’s news included a trip to the hardware store. Mies immediately went up to the counter to inquire about stepladders to aid in his countersurfing endeavors. Oslo discovered a display of Black & Decker stud finders, wondering out loud if this is the kind of device owners of champion Weimaraner bitches would be using to find him when they’re ready to mate.

Monday, Nov 05 – Today brings news of Oslo and Mies once again breaking Seattle’s leash laws. Which is why I will never fully meet the AKC’s definition of a Canine Ambassador. I try to take them to off-leash areas whenever possible, but some days, driving 20+ min. to a dog park just isn’t feasible.

And while Oslo + Mies are running around the Emerald City sans leash, apparently an 11-year old in Malaysia is running around Kuala Lumpur without part of his index finger. The severed digit was accidentally flushed down the toilet by hospital staff. Was zum teufel?!
